Load testing tools come in all shapes and sizes, they vary greatly in terms of quality, expense, easy of use and support.  HP Performance Center (aka Loadrunner) is the defacto standard as Mercury land grabbed market share in the early days and left no room for competitors. Today the landscape is different – and there are a few startups with newer and more nimble technology beginning to seriously challenge this status quo.
